If Your LinkedIn Feed Is Depressing, Read This
Everything Is an Algorithm—Use It to Your Advantage
Hey Friend,
I’ve been thinking about how much our digital worlds shape our emotional ones—especially in a job search.
One of the ways I try to stay sane most days is by filtering the content I interact with. I’ve found that the less I engage with doom and gloom, the less I actually see it. Everything is an algorithm these days. That applies to the ads you get after a late-night spiral about ergonomic desk chairs, your social media feed, and your professional life and networking.
Now, this doesn’t mean I’m sticking my head in the sand. I stay informed—I read the news. But I try to limit how much time I spend consuming it, instead of doom-scrolling myself into oblivion and feeling helpless about the state of the world.
If this sounds like you—and your LinkedIn feed is starting to feel like a graveyard of layoff announcements and budget cut rants—I invite you to try something different this week.
Go to your LinkedIn search bar and type the word “hiring.” Scroll through the posts. You’ll find real people posting real roles on their teams.
Now here’s the fun part: interact. Hit a like. Drop a comment if you’re feeling bold. Reshare it.
And then just… wait. In a few days, your feed will start to shift. Suddenly it won’t feel like everyone is getting laid off—you’ll start seeing opportunities pop up. Because the algorithm thinks that’s what you want. And you know what? Maybe it is.
Try the same thing with other channels and media you consume. I’m not saying positive-wash your entire worldview (toxic positivity is still a thing, friends). But I am saying: make space for balance. Seek out the good. Invite it in.
You might just notice there are more possibilities and good things happening around you than you thought.
P.S. If you're ready to shift more than just your feed—like, say, your entire job search strategy—we’ve got space for a few new clients this month. Whether you’re plotting a career move or just tired of sending resumes into the void, let’s chat.
